Solid analysis in a KBr matrix is a classic technique that retains some attractive features in an ATR world.
A range of techniques exist for the FTIR analysis of solids. In recent decades ATR spectroscopy has become the dominant technique for these types of samples due to its simplicity with little to no sample preparation required. Nonetheless KBr pellets remain a popular choice with several advantages over ATR. This application note outlines these advantages and the basics behind the technique.
