X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) is a technique requiring an extremely smooth sample surface. For many applications, such as mining, minerals and soil analysis, the raw samples consist of hard, irregularly
sized rocks or grit.
These raw materials must be crushed or ground into a powder before they can be used to form a pellet for XRF analysis. This can be accomplished by using a ball-milling machine. The Fritsch P6 planetary ball mill can grind materials down to tens of microns or less.
