(Quest ATR) AN16-03: Pharmacopoeia compliance with the Quest™ ATR

Compliance with pharmacopoeia regulations requires that all pharmacological substances have IR spectral data spanning the 4000-400 cm^-1, the full range usually obtainable on commercially available mid IR spectrometer systems.

Diamond ATR accessories like the Quest™ ATR can provide spectral data over the range required by Pharmacopoeia. They can replace cumbersome and time-consuming methods employed traditionally for liquid and solid sample analysis in FTIR, such as making KBr pellets or using salt cells.

This application note compares ATR with the traditional KBr pellet method of recording spectra of the white crystalline powder theophylline (C₇H₈N₄O₂).
