Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are a popular subject of research. They are porous coordination polymers made up of organic linkers and inorganic modes in a crystalline arrangement. It is anticipated that the optical properties of MOFs can be tuned by changing the balance of tight and loose metal-linker bonds via external stimulus such as a temperature change.
Kevin Fabrizio and Carl K. Brozek at the University of Oregon, Department of Chemistry provided the following application note focusing on the use of Diffuse Reflectance UV-Vis-NIR under variable temperatures and low pressures to analyse MIL-125 MOF. The porous nature of the MOF powders makes them ideal for study using diffuse reflectance.
