Regulations are being implemented to monitor and limit the presence of unreacted isocyanates in products. It is therefore crucial for companies handling isocyanates to establish methods ensuring that their products contain less than 0.1 wt% of these compounds when leaving the factory.


Diisocyanates are commonly used in various products like adhesives and coatings, and can pose health risks if not fully reacted. Exposure to unreacted isocyanate may lead to serious consequences, including asthma, lung damage, and even death. Isocyanates display a distinctive peak in an otherwise vacant part of the spectrum, making FTIR particularly suitable for their analysis.
