The 3-Port Liquid Flow Cell is a sealed, fixed pathlength cell designed for the analysis of oils and other liquids. The cell features Omni-fit reverse cone connecting ports suitable for use with 3.2 mm tubing. Capable of being pressurised to 30 psi (2 bar) the cell is a great addition to any routine analytical laboratory requiring the ability to flow their sample through a cell, such as an automated sampling rig.
Online Analysis of Oils
Monitoring the condition of oil is essential for a range of applications. Soot, water content, nitration and Oxidation can all be directly measured as described by multiple standards such as ASTM D7889, D7624 or E2412.
To demonstrate the use of the cell we connected it up to a peristaltic pump and flowed heptane (substituting for our oil) through the cell in a closed loop. Continuous FTIR monitoring was then used to monitor the changes when the heptane reservoir was spiked with a small quantity of acetone (substituting for our contaminant). The growth of a carbonyl band was clearly observed. Fantastic spectral quality was obtained, with no fringing artefacts (due to the wedged spacer). This work could be further extended by flowing known % impurities samples through the cell to build a simple calibration plot using the Beer-Lambert Law.
The Three Port Flow Cell can be connected into any existing flow system, or can be added to a new flow system.
