Thin-film windows for XRF sample cups

Thin-film support windows are a crucial sealing component of XRF sample cups—disposable plastic containers used for sampling liquids and powders. These windows must be transparent to all signals produced by the analytes of interest and chemically compatible with the sample. Fabricated and stored under environmentally controlled conditions to prevent trace contaminants, these thin-film support windows are available in various formats, including rolls (continuous and perforated), pre-cut sheets, or supported in a card frame for easy application. A wide range of window materials is currently available in various thicknesses for sample containment, such as Polypropylene, Kapton, and Mylar®. Thicker films offer greater durability but attenuate X-ray signals more strongly.
